It's my understanding after some research, that the entire game goes at this pace that envies snails. Nothing interesting happened for way too long and I couldn't take it anymore. I didn't understand why I was even pressing buttons, when they just tell and explain everything to you. That thing in anime, where they explain extremely obvious things to you? These games are that, times like 50. I cannot fathom how anyone can slog through the slow, boring, tediousness of these games. Basically I was open to playing this game and enjoying it. I like some anime here and there, and I don't judge the out there stuff that anime does, I get how they roll, it's funny. And I'm down with a slow, story based game. So everytime these games come up, the comments are insane levels of praise for it. A good twist usually requires a good long well built set up, like I know for a fact that a lot of people would have hated some things that happened in Dangan Ronpa 2 had they had just read the spoilers about it when the game originally came out in 2012. I know people were making a huge deal out of it after having only read the spoilers or seen the leaks, but you might enjoy it after having played the game and experiencing what the game as to offer you for the duration of the playthrough. I'd say to try and remain open minded until you have the chance to get your hands on it yourself. Easily from a production stand point since it has a much higher budget, but it also takes some serious risks that will definitely be controversial and divided, but its not blanket bad. I have a few friends/people who I follow on social medias that understand Japanese and have played the game, and think its easily the best Danganronpa yet. As an example, Tales of Zestiria before it barely even came out was bombarded in 1 star reviews because people found out that the advertised female lead wasn't as prominent in the game as people were led to be believed, and had a different female taking more of a lead role. For a lot of games, the 'star' rating is ridiculously low, a lot of people bombarding games with 1 star reviews for silly/trolly reasons, because they're either obsessive otakus who didn't like one specific thing that happened in a game, or its 2chan causing a fuss. I'd take what Amazon Japan reviews say with a grain of salt, its pretty notorious.
